Our team at Future Stem Leaders had the amazing opportunity to lead elementary school students at PS 019 Marino Jeantet. Our experience with the third-grade students was filled with ambitious minds ready to apply the scientific process, creative thinking, brainstorming, and innovation within STEM activities. The elementary school students were involved in a variety of interactive activities that allowed them to reflect on the importance of STEM. The Tree of Stem Activity, which we created as a team brought into perspective the impact & importance of STEM. The students were able to express their takeaways on a leaf which would then be placed on the Tree of Stem, to be displayed in the main entrance of the elementary school. In addition, the students were delighted and motivated to learn more about STEM as they worked collaboratively during the Marshmallow Toothpick Tower Engineering competition in which students had to create the tallest structure. The students learned about the fundamentals of STEM and the STEM communities. They also learned about key lessons such as working as a team and that it is okay to fail as long as we persevere. Our time at PS 19 Marino Jeantet was filled with laughter and joy as students and our team had so much fun with the workshop!
